5-alarm announcement: Silver Dollar City builds new fire-themed play area

Silver Dollar City officials said Wednesday that a new $8 million firefighters-themed play area will open next spring.  Construction of Fireman's Landing is already underway to replace the Geyser Gulch area for children.

The play area will include six rides and four interactive play zones.

The six rides include:

  • Fire spotter, which features spinning balloons;

  • Fire Wagon Frenzy, a bouncy ride;

  • FireFall, a fire tower that will send riders on an eight-story free fall drop;

  • Roundabout, on which children will ride dalmatians;

  • Up the Ladder, a shorter fire tower drop for small children; and

  • Fireman's Flyers, which will feature swings.

The attractions include:

  • Firehouse Splash Yard, with water jets and pump hoses and targets;

  • Firefighters Fire Drill, featuring buckets, pumpers and a foam ball cannon;

  • Firefighters Fire Escape, an obstacle course; and

  • Firefighters Junior Fire Escape, a toddlers' play area.

Herschend Family Entertainment, owner of Silver Dollar City and other amusement and entertainment attractions around the country, also said its Harlem Globetrotters will perform at Silver Dollar City, three times daily for six weeks, starting next June.
